The weekend of 10th to 14th October, the relaunch of the Targa Florio will turn the floodlights on Sicily and on the legendary roads of the Circuito delle Madonie.
Following the success of its 2011 debut staging, registration is now open for the 2012 Eco Targa Florio Classic.

Together with the Fondazione Targa Florio Onlus and in collaboration with the Automobile Club Palermo, Eco Targa Florio is an event organized by MAC Group, the same agency that produces the Mille Miglia and uniques special ones®.

From 10th to 14th October 2012, Sicily will witness the classic models that wrote the history of the Targa Florio vie in a regularity rally lasting three days and travelling a route that retraces the famous Circuito delle Madonie and part of the Giro di Sicilia (Lap of Sicily).

Countless inquiries have come into the organization from enthusiasts and collectors interested in learning the details of the next event: the excitement is palpable in the world of classic cars, throughout international circles.

2012 marks an important year in the Targa’s history: in fact, precisely one hundred years ago, Vincenzo Florio tested a new formula, running the race on the Giro di Sicilia (Lap of Sicily). The start and finish lines were in Palermo, forming a single, long lap, around Sicily’s perimeter.

Eco Targa Florio 2012 will be enriched with important side initiatives.
For example, event villages will be set up at the route’s main stops (true meeting places for the public, participants, and spectators, in which the region’s specialities will be promoted), along with side shows featuring Sport and Sport Prototype models that have participated in the legendary endurance race.

“We confirmed both the time of year and the formula for success in the first staging, with four distinct but complementary elements that have given life to a unique, large-scale project,” explained Sandro Binelli, President of MAC Group. “Eco Targa Florio is capable of competing with the industry’s leading events on the world stage, and we are working on bringing it to the highest levels possible, increasing the number of participating cars and aiming at ever greater international visibility, thanks in part to important partnerships.”

Working closely with car companies, as always, MAC Group has decided to incorporate a joint presenting sponsorship formula into Eco Targa Florio: this successful format, already applied to the Mille Miglia, allows for involving every car company that has contributed to making the race a legend. Agreements with Porsche, which also participated in the 2011 event, are currently being defined: its involvement will allow for important models housed in the museum in Stuttgart to hit the roads once again, together with the drivers who won significant recognitions behind the wheels of those same cars.
In addition to Porsche, negotiations with other important companies are also far along, like Alfa Romeo, which, with its ten victories in the Targa Florio endurance race, ranks second only to Porsche.

In short, preparations are kicking into high gear for an event that will revive the emotions of engines roaring down the roads, tires squealing round the curves, and drivers gritting their teeth in concentration.

SELECTION CRITERIA
The Eco Targa Florio Classic will only be open to classic cars built from the start of the century to the last year in which the Targa endurance race was held (1977), and priority will be given to models that raced the Targa.

Beginning in 2012, to safeguard the trademark of the oldest race in the world, the Automobile Club of Palermo has decided to prohibit the participation of any car that has attended events, in Italy or the world at large, using images that are identical or similar to those owned by the Automobile Club of Palermo (ACP), without its authorization.
“The Automobile Club of Palermo and the Fondazione Targa Florio Onlus intend to oppose all events that make inappropriate or unauthorized use of the trademark,” explained Antonio Marasco, ACP President. “And in this regard, I would like to thank MAC Group for the excellent work they are doing to revive the popularity of this brand, paying particular attention to and focusing on the future.”

This effort is being realized through a comprehensive project composed of four distinct but complementary elements. Supplementing the Eco Targa Florio Classic are:
· the Eco Targa Florio Green Prix: a true laboratory of development, aimed at alternative energy vehicles, in which eco-sustainable models will race the legendary roads of the Targa Florio. This international stage will allow companies and their green products to test their competitiveness on an industry-wide level.
· the Ferrari Tribute to Targa Florio: the Maranello company’s homage to the historic race, featuring an authentic regularity challenge that will precede the other two competitions along the Sicilian roads and welcome Ferraris built from 1948 to the present day.
· the Eco Mobility International Forum: an opportunity to meet and discuss new eco-sustainable solutions in the automotive industry, where scholars, researchers, manufacturers, and political representatives interested in the matter of alternative energies will be able to exchange views to explain the goals achieved so far and to outline the future of sustainable mobility.

THE 2011 EVENT
Eco Targa Florio is an international event that pays homage to the famous automobile race born in 1906 and competed 95 times to this day in events ranging from World to European and Italian championships, in endurance, rally, and regularity forms.

Its debut staging in 2011 achieved significant results with over 100 crews participating from 19 countries. Besides Italy, which mustered nearly 70 participants between drivers and co-drivers, the other countries represented included Germany (16), Great Britain (9), the Netherlands (8), Japan (3), Argentina (2), Ireland (2), Russia (2) and South Africa (2). Enthusiasts, collectors, and top drivers all sharing the same passion: a love for wheels.

Among the most interesting and especially valuable models were a 1925 Diatto 20 S, the oldest car at the event, along with other pre-war models, including a 1933 MG J2 and a 1938 SS100. Porsche was represented by a 1954 550/1500 RS, a 911 S 2.2 Targa (from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart), and a 1973 911 RS Carrera, among others. And worth particular note were three Ferrari 250 GTs: a 1957 Berlinetta, a 1959 Coupé, and a 1962 Cabriolet. The legend of the Prancing Horse was also told by a 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB4 and a 1975 Dino 208 GT4, among others.

Sarà nel weekend dal 10 al 14 di ottobre che l'evento di rilancio della Targa Florio accenderà i riflettori sulla Sicilia e sulle leggendarie strade del circuito delle Madonie.
Dopo il successo dell'edizione zero 2011, la Sicilia vedrà i modelli d'epoca che hanno fatto la storia della Targa Florio, confrontarsi in una gara di regolarità della durata di tre giorni e due notti, lungo un percorso che ricalca il celebre Circuito delle Madonie e parzialmente il giro di Sicilia.
Un evento che si ispira al passato e, al contempo, è orientato al futuro per coniugare la storia e la tradizione della manifestazione - un capitale prezioso da salvaguardare e valorizzare - con la promozione del territorio e la divulgazione dei nuovi valori e contenuti della mobilità sostenibile.
L'Eco Targa Florio Classic 2012 è una gara riservata alle vetture d'epoca costruite dagli inizi del secolo al 1977, data che pone fine alla gara di velocità storica. In omaggio alla storica gara verrà data priorità alle vetture i cui telai o modelli corsero in quegli anni, in un evento che si preannuncia di grande partecipazione.
Una competizione di auto d'epoca la cui vittoria tornerà ad essere ambita da piloti e case auto, coinvolgendo il meglio del collezionismo internazionale che si confronterà in una gara di regolarità a calendario CSAI e FIVA.
The event
Sicily will be under the spotlight again from the 10th to the 14th of October 2012, for the re-launching of the Targa Florio, on the legendary roads of the circuito delle Madonie,.
Following the success of the 2011 event, models that made the history of the Targa Florio will compete against each other in a regularity event lasting three days and two nights, along a route that traces the famous Circuito delle Madonie and parts of the tour of Sicily.
The 2012 Eco Targa Florio Classic is an event for historic and classic cars manufactured from the beginning of the last century to 1977, the last year the historic speed race took place. As a tribute to the historic race, chassis and models that ran in those years will take precedence over other cars or models during the selection process, in an event for which a large number of entry applications are expected.
It will be an event for historic cars where drivers and car manufacturers will once again yearn for victory, involving the cream of international collectors, who will challenge each other in a regularity event on the CSAI, FIA and FIVA calendars.
How to enter
The 2012 Eco Targa Florio Classic will take place from Wednesday the 10th of October (optional) to Sunday, October the 14th and is a classic regularity event.

Entry applications are now open and will close at midnight on Friday April the 27th 2012
To enter the 2012 event, you should follow this procedure:
· go to the area dedicated to the Eco Targa Florio Classic on the website www.ecotargaflorio.com
· register to get a login and password
· access and fill in the 9-part entry form
· get an entry application number
· pay the entry fee with your credit card
Cars manufactured from 1906 to 1977 will be considered for acceptance.
We would like to inform you that you will have to upload:
- 8 photographs of the car in JPG form, maximum 2,048 kb:
· Period photo (optional)
· Recent front ¾ view
· Recent rear ¾ view
· Recent side view
· Engine bay
· Cockpit
· Front brake
· VIN plate
· Number punching on the chassis
- a copy of one of the following documents:
· Fiche ACI - CSAI Regolarità Auto Storiche
· FIA HTP
· FIVA ID Card
Up until the 31st of January 2012, the entry fee will € 3,960*. From the 1st of February 2012 the entry fee will be 4,350*. This must be paid by credit card, using the secure server on the website www.ecotargaflorio.com , once the entry process has been completed. VISA and MasterCard are accepted.
For information as to the status of your entry registration, all you have to do is check your entry form.
Applications submitted with incomplete or false information will not be accepted, nor will applications without documentation, without photographs or without entry fees.
From the 31st of May 2012 the results of the committee's decision as to whether your car has been accepted or not will be shown on-line in your personal area.
If the car has not been accepted, the entry fee (minus bank handling fees) will be returned to the credit card account used to pay the entry fee, by the 30th of June, 2012.
If anyone gives up their entry, their place in the event will be taken by someone on the waiting list.
The waiting list will be ordered on the basis of the date the organizers receive payment of the entry fee.
